I know I don’t have to go into detail about how challenging 2020 has been. For me, it's been a great reminder that challenging doesn't necessarily mean bad. And as much as we might prefer our experiences to be as painless as possible, fleeting moments of happiness are not what give us a sustained feeling of gratitude and joy. Joy comes from having had both the ups and the downs and continuing on the journey long enough to see the light on the other side; to get up, try again and embrace having yet another experience.

For over eight years, I've taken myself and clients through the process of pausing and reflecting before diving into planning the future. 2019 was a rough year for my family and me, and admittedly, even though wonderful things happened this year, 2020 was much harder to make myself sit with and digest.

It's been a crazy time, but nothing is ever 100% bad. I have so much to celebrate! And so I remember that what is painful--or the things I'd prefer to be without--still gives me so much in terms of learning, understanding, and experience. For that, I am so grateful.

As you're looking ahead, celebrating, and clearing out the clutter from this past year, don't forget to remember and process what brought you here. The people, the behaviors, the conversations, the actions, and the decisions you made--good and bad--are all clues to what will help you be the most aligned and authentic version of yourself in the future.

Check out my free download of powerful questions for the year, including special ones added for the uniqueness of 2020, and a quick guide to setting up your space and clearing your mind before you get started.

I hope you enjoy this reflection exercise.

Wishing you good health, plenty of rest, peace, and blessings in the new year!
